NewsSep 2009 - Facebook and TwitterLove them or hate them you have to accept that social networking sites are here to stay so, as the saying goes if you can't beat them, then join them! We have now launched an official Reading Phoenix Facebook site. Log-in, as normal on Facebook, search for Reading Phoenix Choir and register as a fan. Share your views on the 'wall'. All our fans are welcome. You can also follow us on Twitter by typing twitter.com/readingphoenix in your address bar. Finally, aware that not all our friends are Facebook or Twitter fans, we are developing a Forum accessible from this website with sections for Guests, Ex-members, Patrons and Current Members. Watch this space for further details. May 2009 - From joy to sorrowThe first few months of the year have seen moments of great joy but also a period of great sorrow following the death of our founding Musical Director Norman Morris more details of which can be found elsewhere on this website. The year started well with a very successful Annual Concert at the Hexagon Theatre with Guest Artist Richard Digance. This was followed by a local concert at the Methodist Church in Queens Road followed by one further afield, this time our latest visit to St Peter's Curch in Tiverton. This was followed by a very successful Festival of Choirs at which four other local groups, Reading Male Voice, Reading Bach, Basingstoke Ladies and a specially formed choir of local primary school children joined Phoenix in an evening of choral music. Unknown to anyone at the time this event was to be the last public appearance of our MD who died on April 11th. Norman had expressed a wish that the 40th Season Celebration on 2nd May should go ahead largely as he had planned and a very successful evening ensued with many ex-members joining the current choir in singing some popular Phoenix favourites interpersed with a dress parade, sketches and guest appearances. The Celebration was to have been followed the next morning by a Thanksgiving Service at The Minster but instead a Memorial Service for Norman was held at All Saints Church in Wokingham. So we now enter a difficult period for the Phoenix however all commitments for the current season will be honoured. Meanwhile the Committee and other members have some difficult choices that will require careful consideration. Sep 2008 - International Choir Festival of JerseyReading Phoenix is to take part in this prestigious four day Festival starting with a Reception for participating choirs on 9th October and culminating in the Championship Class, for winners of the individual competitions,, in the evening of the 11th October. Prior to the competitive classes, the Choir will take part, together with other choirs, in concerts at school and church venues. |
